I’d been meaning to try out Model Market in Lewisham for ages and I was super excited to finally be going. I arrived and instantly felt good about the place. I recently came back from Budapest where ruin bars are all the rage. Basically, abandoned warehouses turned into a bar.
Model Market feels exactly the same. An old market has been re-opened (but not re-decorated) allowing various food and drink vendors to sell in the old stalls. Most of the food stalls sell small bites, which is perfect for me because it meant I could try 3 different stalls and not feel too fat ;-)
I had some amazing pork ribs from Smokestak, a buttermilk fried chicken slider from Spit & Roast and a mini-naan slider from Rola Wala. The food is amazing and there’s loads of choice so something for everyone.
There’s also a few different bars selling all manner of drinks, people were drinking from pineapples and melons and we also tried a frozen margarita, from the funniest ‘roof top’ bar I’ve ever seen. Let’s just say the views aren’t exactly to die for.
The atmosphere at the Model Market was great. It’s family friendly so take your kids and get them some amazing food. Or head down with your mates and eat and drink into the early hours. There’s also a DJ spinning some cool beats if you want to get your dance on.
I had a great time and I’ll be heading back soon!
