The day started with a quick trip to Mike’s parents house where the groomsmen were going to get ready. Spirits were high and the guys were having a good laugh. Mike’s brother was teasing him mum with the main goal being of making her cry, which was hilarious to watch, although she didn’t shed a single tear while I was there so I guess she takes the victory.
On top of that, everyone (even me) was treated to bacon and sausage baps made by Mike’s dad, which was a great start to the day :-)
Mike had lovingly printed out a VERY detailed itinerary for all the groomsmen so each of them knew where they needed to be and when they needed to be there. The guys were going to be busy.
Now it was time to head over to Sally’s parents house to spend some time with her and her bridemaids as they got ready. By the time I got there they were well underway, but there was still lots to prepare!
One of Sally’s bridesmaids was preparing her hair and by the time it was done, it looked amazing.
All that was left now was the dress…
Sally’s mum handmade the dress herself and it was amazing! So much work had gone into it and there were lots of really gorgeous details.
The flower pattern was lovely, the ribbon pulling her in at the middle and the cut of the neckline really made this dress standout. Sally is lucky to have such a talented mum. I also discovered her talents don’t stop there, she’s also a dab hand at bricklaying having built one of the out-houses in their garden!
Seeing Sally in her dress took my breath away, she looked amazing and looked so happy. It was impossible not to smile at the sight of her.
The bridesmaids were still helping Sally get every fastened and ensuring the dress was sitting right but once Sally was happy, it was time to head to the church!
Write your story here. (Optional)
As I arrived at the church, the guests were already piling in. After a morning of flood warnings, the weather was beautiful and everyone was ready for a fun day.
Sally and her dad arrived at the church in a vintage Roll’s Royce, which was gleaming in the sunshine. However, it was overshadowed by Sally.
Her dad helped her out of the car and it was easy to see just how happy both were. It was time to walk down the aisle…
The church was gorgeous, the sun was streaming through the stained glass windows and the guests were ready.
It was a lovely ceremony, with a few readings and even more hymns. After a short while it was official, Sally & Mike were husband and wife and everyone was very happy for them.
Their niece and nephew were having a particularly good time!
Anyone who know’s Mike & Sally would know they love a good party and their reception was not going to let anyone down. The guests headed to Sally’s parents huge garden where they were greeted with a marquee, lawn bowls, croquet, jenga, afternoon tea and more drink than anyone could need!
It was time for the speeches and Sally’s father started things of with a lovely speech. He’s clearly very proud of his little girl and was happy she had found someone who makes her as happy as Mike does.
Mike followed with a brilliant speech. I particularly liked the moment when he confessed to Sally’s dad that although they have a ritual of drinking expensive whiskey together, Mike secretly hates whiskey!
Now it was time for Mike’s best men to let people know what he’s really like. They told some funny stories from his time at university, which clearly surprised both Sally and Mike’s mother.
Sally & Mike are all about fun and their portraits were no different. They were adamant we had a photo of them both jumping (which it looked like they’d been practicing for as they were very good). The tiger pose was also a request so we got that in as well.
It was a pleasure shooting for them, they’re so easy going and as long as it’s fun they’re willing.
No wedding is complete until there’s been some crazy shapes thrown all about the place. Mike & Sally got things going with an upbeat first dance and the rest of the guests didn’t need much persuading to join in.
A special mention has to go to Mike’s dad because he was throwing some shapes that are yet to be discovered, what a dancer he is!
I had to finish this story with one of my favourite photos from the day. Sally & Mike like a drink, and in customary Boatwright style there was a shot of Limoncello for everyone. Clearly though…they don’t like their shot of choice as much as they thought ;-)
What a day, here’s to two wonderful people!
