Our plane landed in Stockholm and we headed underground to get an express train into the city centre. The underground in Stockholm is so interesting to look at. Most stations have coloured rock walls and we even came across an ancient looking water feature.
The first thing we noticed was just how quiet it was underground. Compared to London where you’re always surrounded by people, we often found ourselves the only people in sight.
Once we’d dropped off our bags, we headed out and explored the many islands that make up Stockholm.
It really is a beautiful city. Each island seems to have it’s own style, from the Parisian mega rich feeling Östermalm to the Hipster streets of Södermalm. Wherever you are in Stockholm, there’s beautiful architecture, a relaxed atmosphere and lots of interesting places to explore.
Stockholm is made up of a number islands, which means pretty much wherever you are in the city you are surrounded by water. Stockholm has numerous moorings each filled with amazing boats ranging from small tug boats to huge yachts.
We also took the chance to enjoy a few bars, which were on the water :-)
We didn’t know it when we booked, but the Gum Ball 3000 was in town over the weekend. There were loads of audacious super cars driving around, which really attracted the crowds.
We also paid a quick visit to the Vasa Museum to see the only almost fully intact 17th century ship that has ever been salvaged. The warship Vasa sank on her maiden voyage in Stockholm 1628 and is quite the impressive sight.
On our final night we visited one last bar on the water to relax with a few drinks and reflect on the trip.
Stockholm was a great place to visit. There’s so much to see, everyone is really friendly and it feels very relaxed. We had 3 full days to explore, but it didn’t really feel like we even scratched the surface.
